Installing a roof mounting system involves three connected tasks: securing the roof clamps, assembling the supporting rails and fixing the modules. The Solaracks BL600 and RH4 manual describes this sequence with a T-module connection between the clamp and rail. Checking each connection before moving to the next stage helps keep the assembly consistent with the project drawings. [1]

Confirm the scope before starting

This article explains the mechanical installation sequence shown in the Solaracks BL600 + RH4 manual, version 1.0 dated 18 July 2024. Use it alongside the installation documents supplied for the project. It does not determine roof capacity, wind loading, support spacing or module compatibility. [1, 2]

Confirm that the roof profile, BL600 clamp configuration, RH4 rails and module clamps match the approved bill of materials and drawings. A clamp’s appearance alone does not establish compatibility with a particular seam. Obtain confirmation before installing on a roof profile that is absent from the project documentation.

Only professionally trained installers should carry out the work. Check the supporting structure and arrange safe roof access and the site’s required fall protection before lifting components. Keep electrical connections and commissioning within the qualified electrical team’s work scope. The source manual requires trained installation and verification of the supporting structure. [2]

Prepare the parts and tools

Check delivered quantities and inspect the parts for damage. The manual’s component list includes BL600 clamps, SR-RH4 rails, T-modules, rail joiners, mid clamps and end clamps. Confirm the supplied fasteners and module clamp configuration against the order. [1]

Prepare the specified hex driver, measuring tape, spirit level, marking line or pen, protective gloves and the torque-controlled tools required by the applicable fastening instructions. Obtain the tightening requirement for each connection before starting. A module-clamp torque value must not be reused automatically for a roof clamp, T-module or rail joiner. The manual does not state one common torque for all these connections. [1]

Before mechanical assembly, coordinate with qualified electrical personnel using the approved electrical design. Identify any bonding or grounding components that must be fitted during rail or module-clamp assembly, and confirm their installation timing. Resolve unclear details before the affected assembly.

Step 1. Mark the approved layout

Transfer the rail lines and clamp positions from the project drawings to the roof. Check module orientation, roof boundaries and the positions of the supporting seams before placing components. Support spacing, rail overhang and edge clearances must come from the applicable design; do not scale them from a rendering. The manual directs installers to obtain the maximum rail support spacing from Solaracks or the supplying dealer. [2]

Check before continuing: the marked layout agrees with the drawing, and every planned clamp location has a confirmed roof interface.

Step 2. Fit the BL600 roof clamps

Place each BL600 clamp at its specified roof location. Engage it with the approved seam profile and secure the clamp with the fasteners specified for that assembly. The manual’s installation sequence starts by clipping the standing-seam clamp tightly to the metal roof and tightening its securing bolts. [1]

Do not modify the clamp, bend its parts or add holes to make an incompatible profile fit. The manual prohibits component modifications outside the described procedure. [2]

Figure 2. Roof-clamp arrangement shown before rail assembly. The drawing illustrates the sequence, not a universal spacing pattern.

Check before continuing: each clamp is at the correct position and its engagement and fastening have been checked against the approved instructions.

Step 3. Connect the RH4 rails

Connect the rails to the roof clamps using the specified T-module assembly. Confirm the component’s engagement with the rail channel before final tightening. Check alignment, support positions and the intended mounting plane against the approved drawings. The source sequence connects the clamp and rail through the T-module. [1]

Check before continuing: every rail connection uses the correct parts, is properly engaged and has been tightened to its applicable requirement.

Step 4. Join rail lengths where specified

Where the design calls for a splice, first confirm that the supplied joiner is approved for the RH4 rail. Resolve any mismatch between the joiner identification, bill of materials and rail drawing before assembly.

The manual illustrates a joiner connecting two rail sections and describes securing one section before inserting and securing the next. Follow the instructions for the confirmed joiner, including its engagement and fastening requirements. Check the completed alignment before adding modules. [1]

Figure 4. Rail-splice illustration. Confirm the joiner’s compatibility with the supplied RH4 rails before using this detail.

Check before continuing: the correct joiner is fitted and both rail sections are secured. The illustration alone is not a parts-compatibility approval.

Step 5. Install the modules and clamps

Before placing modules, obtain the approved anti-slip detail and confirm the hardware, positions and installation sequence. Obtain clarification before proceeding if any of these are undefined. Fit the anti-slip provisions at the stage specified in that detail and check their seating during module placement.

Place the first module on the rails at the position specified in the layout. Fit its end clamps against the frame and secure the first module before positioning the next one. Follow the module manufacturer's permitted clamping locations and the applicable Solaracks clamp instructions. [1]

The manual then places a preassembled mid clamp against the first module, initially leaves it loose, brings the next module into position and tightens the mid clamp. At this stage, it requires the anti-slip protection to sit in the rail channel of the lowest row of rails. Continue along the row, then secure the final module with the required mid and end clamps. For the first row of modules, the manual also calls for correct anti-slip seating in the rail channel when placing the last module. [1]

Figure 5. Mid-clamp detail between adjacent modules. Use the clamp configuration specified for the supplied module frame.

Check before continuing: the frames and clamps are correctly seated, permitted clamp zones are respected and each fastening has its specified tightening check.

Step 6. Inspect and record the installation

Check the mechanical installation against the drawings before handover. Verify the roof clamps, rail connections, any joiners and all module clamps. Record unresolved defects and close them before releasing the installation for the next stage.

The manual also illustrates a rail grounding system. Have the qualified electrical team verify the required bonding and grounding arrangement using the approved electrical design. This article does not establish a bonding path or a continuity-test acceptance value. [1]

Use the following mechanical handover checklist:

  • Roof profile, parts and layout match the project documentation.
  • Clamps and rail connections have been inspected.
  • Splices use confirmed compatible components.
  • Module clamps are seated and tightening checks are recorded.
  • The specified anti-slip provisions have been verified.
  • Inspection photographs and outstanding actions are included in the handover record.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not select clamps by visual similarity, take support spacing from the figures or apply one torque to every connection. Do not substitute a joiner without confirming rail compatibility. Resolve undefined anti-slip details before placing modules, and secure the first module before building out the row. [1, 2]

Common questions

Can BL600 clamps be used on any metal roof?

Do not assume so. Confirm the exact seam profile and clamp configuration against the approved project documents before installation.

Can every bolt use the same torque?

No universal torque is established by this article or the source sequence. Check the requirement for each roof-clamp, rail-connection, splice and module-clamp assembly. [1]

Can the drawings in this article determine clamp spacing?

No. The figures explain assembly. Obtain spacing and rail overhang from the applicable structural design. [2]

What if a joiner or anti-slip component is unclear?

Pause the affected assembly and obtain the matching drawing or written clarification. Include the rail identification, part photographs and project reference when requesting support.
