Why We Developed the G02
Our existing clamping nuts for HDG (hot-dip galvanized) steel rails rely on drilled holes in the steel bar to locate and lock the nut in position. In practice, hole drilling in HDG bars introduces a tolerance problem: the galvanizing process, combined with punching or drilling variation, means hole positions frequently shift from their nominal center. When installation crews try to mate the nut to the rail, the holes don't always align. The result is installation friction, forced fastening, and in some cases, compromised clamping load.
The G02 eliminates this entirely. Instead of relying on drilled holes in the rail bar, the nut itself is precision-molded with a geometry that locks into the ZAM channel profile directly — no hole matching required.
What's New in the G02 Design
Improved Clamping Strength Over the G01
The G02's revised mold geometry increases the contact bearing area against the ZAM channel lip, raising the load capacity of each nut compared to the G01.
Works in Both Horizontal and Vertical Orientations
The G02 works in both horizontal and vertical rail orientations with the same part. Previous designs were direction-specific. On projects where rail runs change direction — or where the mounting configuration requires vertical rail placement — crews previously had to source different hardware or adapt the installation. The G02 handles both orientations with the same part, reducing SKU complexity on site.
Designed for ZAM Steel
ZAM (zinc-aluminum-magnesium) steel has become Solaracks' preferred rail material for corrosive environments due to its superior corrosion resistance over standard HDG. However, ZAM's unique surface and channel geometry required a re-engineered nut profile to achieve proper engagement and clamping load. The G02 is dimensioned and toleranced specifically for ZAM channel rails, ensuring consistent bite across the full load range.
Precision Mold, Consistent Output
Because the G02 is produced from a controlled mold rather than machined or drilled from bar stock, dimensional consistency is significantly higher. Every nut comes off the tool at the same geometry — no processing variability, no site-level fitting issues.
Compatible Clamp Types
The G02 nut is currently available paired with:
- MC + G02 — Mid-clamp assembly for securing internal panel edges
- EC + G02 — End-clamp assembly for securing the outer panel edge
Both assemblies use a stainless steel socket head cap screw and are ready for standard hex-bit power tool installation.
